'78-'79 XS1100 with Mikuni BS34 Carbs

  This is the first evolution to the XS1100 carburetors. They were used from 78-79 and came in three versions. They are similar enough to fully interchange so you may find your bike to have any of the versions listed, including the later '80-'81 version. The ID number for these carbs is located on the left side, top of each carb and can be hard to read if there is a lot of oxidization. So the easiest way to at lease determin if they are from the '78-'79 group or the '80-'81 group is the air screws on top. The '80-'81 will have air screws that are fully embedded inside the pocket and the '78-'79 will have exposed air screws where the head and the spring are exposed when mounted. There are other differences, but this is the fasted way to tell. XS1100 Specials (Including Midnight Special) have a elaborite fuel line system with both a "reserve" and "on" line for each of the two petcocks. The standard uses a single fuel line for each side.

Note: Starting in '74 Yamaha started year coding bikes in the last letter used in the name. You may see this code on your bikes paperwork or in a parts list or catalog.  I leave this off as it is redundant if you are showing the year anyway. There is a chart below to find your year code.

Below are a set of XS1100SF (3H3) Mikuni BS34 carbs. The carbs all have the same internal tuning. The numbers denote cosmetic changes like plain top caps, chrome top caps and the Midnight with gold top caps and gloss black painted carbs.
