Rob's Carburetor Rebuilds

Rob's History

Japanese motorcycles have been my life for over 48 years. When I was 8 years old my father and uncle started CYCLE-RE-CYCLE in Indianapolis. This was the largest and most popular salvage business in the area and I was hooked. Back in the '70's a lot of kids worked with the family, in a family business and I was no exception.

Before the store opened in '77 I was tearing down bikes and bike parts to acquire inventory for the original form of the business, used parts. This has got to be the best way to learn about motorcycles, how they work, and what wears out. I was pulling parts for customers and figuring out small issues on bikes at 12 years old, and finally being a full time employee at 16 with a school work program that allowed me to leave at noon to work for High School credit.

We included new parts in '82 and became very popular. I loved diagnosing and fixing issues with customer bikes and became fluent with how the big four Japanese bikes worked, and sometimes, did not work. Each bike, model, and year has different great points and bad points and you NEVER stop learning more. I have built and rebuilt almost every part of every street model made with a few rare exceptions.

One thing we offered from the time I purchased the business in '97 was free carburetor inspections. I could typically ask a few questions about the issue and pinpoint the problem and get the customer back on track. I did this until 2005 when I started concentrating on rebuilding various carbs to sell at the store. Once I had a good program for rebuilding carbs properly, acquiring quality parts for the rebuilds, along with data basing a huge list of various carb specs. I started professionally rebuilding carburetors in 2007-2008 for our customers.

After rebuilding a couple thousand carbs I have honed my skills to a level where I WILL make yours run like they should and look great to boot! I offer many services to fix things that many people, including mechanics, would consider a lost cause. I am a carburetor specialist and ONLY service carburetors and related carburetor parts like petcocks. I keep a huge amount of parts and used parts, so I rarely have to go "out of house" to acquire parts I need. I only use JIS hardware and the best parts without ending up with a set of carbs that cost more than the bike. Business is created from return business and word of mouth so no stone is left unturned for your rebuild. I can't afford to have customers sending back carbs due to mistakes or incorrect set-up. I take pride in every carb I rebuild, and that shows in the work I do. I also welcome you to vet me at anytime if your interested in service. Typically all carbs are paid for AFTER the rebuild is done. Also, if your carbs are not rebuildable after the initial inspection for some reason, I will never charge for work done to that point. This is a rare occurrence as I can usually come up with a solution for almost any issue. Return shipping will be the only charge if this happens. ALL carbs are done by ME, so I take full responsibility for the quality and service.

Cleaning parts is typically done by ultra-sonic and we NEVER media blast with the rare exception of an occasional bracket or cap that is impossible to restore otherwise. Each carb type, zinc, aluminum, magnesium, brass, copper, etc is cleaned a different way based on years of figuring out how to clean them with as low invasive process as possible. You will also receive multiple pictures of all parts laid out before assembly and various picks taken during assembly. This also includes a tech sheet on all carb settings both stock and upgrades for performance, and a full list of both used and new parts installed in your rebuilt and restored carburetor.

Every single carburetor pictured on this site is a carb I rebuilt. I do not use any pictures from manuals, or other sources with the exception of a occasional mechanical picture to help explain a specific subject.

Please enjoy my site and see how your carbs could look!
