'80-'83 XJ650 with Hitachi HSC32 Carbs

 This is the very popular XJ650 with Hitachi HSC32 carbs. This bike came in two basic models, the Maxim and the Seca. These carbs can be very hard to ID as Hitachi attached the ID number to the float bowls. This means they can have almost any combination of parts, including XJ700 and XJ750 parts. They all look similar and they all physically fit with no real modifications. You just have to be a detective most often to ensure the set is correct and, most importantly, built properly. They can have one of two different air screw types, multiple air jet combos along with main jet sizes, jet needles, and other parts. There are also some horrible kits out there to make it even more fun. This has caused them to get a reputation as bad carbs. In reality, they run great on these bikes if all the issues are addressed and they get the correct parts for the bike they are mounted to.

Note: Starting in '74 Yamaha started year coding bikes in the last letter used in the name. You may see this code on your bikes paperwork or in a parts list or catalog.  I leave this off as it is redundant if you are showing the year anyway. There is a chart below to find your year code.

Below are a set of XJ650G (4X7) Hitachi HSC32 carbs. All the XJ650 models listed below seem like the same carbs, but they do have different internal tuning on the '80-'81 as these years were not a YICS motor. I also will verify the engine and year on the bike as it is also possible to directly interchange the XJ650, XJ700, and the XJ750 motors. This does not include the XJ650 Turbo or the XJ700 Maxim-X.
