'81-'83 XJ550 Seca and Maxim with Mikuni BS28SS Carbs
This is the XJ550 that comes with Mikuni BS28SS carbs. This bike comes in two styles, Maxim and Seca, and both use these carbs. They all have the same internal tuning, but they have some cosmetic changes. These carbs interchange on any model listed here and are not important what year they are on. However, you can also mount YX600 Radian carbs or FZ600 carbs on this model and they do not have the same tuning or CFM. So this is a good reason to ID the carbs just the same.
Note: Starting in '74 Yamaha started year coding bikes in the last letter used in the name. You may see this code on your bikes paperwork or in a parts list or catalog. I leave this off as it is redundant if you are showing the year anyway. There is a chart below to find your year code.
