'88-'92 GSXR750 Oil Cooled Fours with Mikuni BST36SS and BST38SS CV Slingshot Carbs
This is the second generation of the GSXR750 with the new second gen Slingshot BST36SS carbs in '88-'89 and BST38SS in '90-92. An entirely new design for Suzuki street bikes and routinely mixed up with incorrect parts, bad tuning and parts from other models that used the Slingshot carbs on other oil cooled versions like GSX750F and GSXR1100's, etc.
Starting in '71 Suzuki started year coding bikes in the last letter used in the name. You may see this code on your bikes paperwork or in a parts list or catalog. I leave this off as it is redundant if you are showing the year anyway. There is a chart below to find your year code.
Below is a set of '90 GSXR750 17D30 BST38SS Slingshot carbs. These seemingly simple carbs can fight you if you do not properly ID them. On top of the fact that a huge amount got stage kits that changed not only parts like needles, jets and springs, but also included emulsion tube changes. There are a lot of things that can go wrong and make the bike run terrible. Also other countries do not use the exact same versions as the US so buying from Ebay can be a minefield. '88 always have the 36mm but some '89's had them too so again many pitfalls. Almost every time a customer says the carbs are junk and they should be thrown away, it is just using the wrong combo of parts and they can work like new again. These carbs shown have the jet caps on the float bowls, but this only on the earlier versions.
