'77-'79 GS550 Fours with Mikuni VM22 Mechanical Slide Carbs

This is the first gen GS550 with the VM22 mechanical slide carbs. Every model listed here will interchange physically, but setting will change and different tuning parts will cause issues if not properly identified. I expect these bikes to have the wrong carb and have to always make sure to ID them correctly and make sure they have proper parts installed.  When properly set-up these bikes are great and run great and can be very dependable. I also can customize a GS550 set from this era with 24MM carbs for performance applications.

Starting in '71 Suzuki started year coding bikes in the last letter used in the name. You may see this code on your bikes paperwork or in a parts list or catalog.  I leave this off as it is redundant if you are showing the year anyway. There is a chart below to find your year code.

Below is a set of '79 GS550 47030 carbs.  These GS550 carbs are hard to tell apart so they are commonly mixed in both parts and mounted models. They have a stamped number on the diamond shaped area where the body mounts to the main mounting bracket so they can be easily identified. Also the 47010 has the pilot air screws that are facing right on the right carbs and left on the left carbs where as the 47030 have all four pilot air screws facing left as the set pictured.
