'78-'79 GS1000 8V Fours with Mikuni VM26 Mechanical Slide Carbs

This is the first gen GS1000 with the VM26 mechanical slide carbs. These bikes can be found with a variety of incorrect carbs including even some Kawasaki models. It is very important to properly id them. The ID number is located on the diamond shaped flange where the body meets the main brace that holds the carbs together.  NOTE: The C or N you see in the end of the bikes naming is telling you the year, not the model.

 Starting in '71 Suzuki started year coding bikes in the last letter used in the name. You may see this code on your bikes paperwork or in a parts list or catalog.  I leave this off as it is redundant if you are showing the year anyway. There is a chart below to find your year code.

Below is a set of GS1000E '79 49030 carbs. These are like most of the early VM carbs on early Suzuki's where they have both pilot screws (On sides) and air screws (on bottom) this can make it challenging to tune if your not famillar to this set-up. They also seem like they are all the same tuning, but they have different  needle jet sizes depending on carb ID. The set below also uses the cable choke, unlike the '78 using a lever choke on the carb left side.
