Rob's Carburetor Rebuilds

KZ900 Models '76 with Mechanical Slide Mikuni VM26

This is the second gen 900 carbs. These are sometimes listed as '76-'77, but I have never seen a legitimate '77 set in the US. A lot of these bikes, especially the LTD were made in the USA. These carbs look like VM26's from the KZ1000 '77-'78, but they are very different in a lot of ways. There were very early '77 KZ1000's that were almost dead ringers, but even they are not actually identical. KZ900 has a very specific throttle cable and idle brackets, nickel plated choke valves, the slide risers are similar to 29mm smoothbore carbs, and the carb connection bracket that spans the top of the carbs. There are other differences, but these are the main things you will notice.

Pictured below is a combination of two different carbs. The completed set is actually a KZ1000A '77 (299) carb set which was used an a very few very early '77's and was superseded by (1024). For this short time they used the '76 900 design features, loosely. Also below that are pics of a actual '76 KZ900 carb set in pre assembly pictures. '76 KZ900 were not part number marked, they simply had a marking (Z12).
