Rob's Carburetor Rebuilds

'89-'90 ZX7 Ninja Keihin CVK Down-draft CVK36-CVK38 Carbs

This is the first gen of the ZX7. The first year '89 has a CVK36 down-draft carb and '90 has a CVK38 down-draft that was similar to all other years. However, all of the ZX7 generations have a huge amount of changes including both internal tuning and external changes that can make them problematic if not identified properly before acquiring any parts. Also, it is common for these carbs to have various stage kits with proprietary parts that will never match with stock parts and builds. The carbs can have even irreversible changes to slides and jet inserts and slide springs that will kill the balance on a bike that already walks a tightrope when it comes to midrange smoothness.

Pictured below is a set of '89 ZX750H1 V274 set and a '90 ZX750H2  V588. Even though these two sets will physically fit one another, it is not recommended to interchange. The California versions have different internal tuning.
