CB400 and CM400 Normal Shift Twins '80-'81 KeiHin VB22's
All of the 400-450 Twin carbs made from '78-'86 look similar, but they are VERY diverse. You have to pay close attention to the specific version to correctly rebuild and the bike they are currently installed. They are found to be interchanged and very mixed-up so just replicating current parts installed, is a recipe for disaster. They are also 32mm carbs and will NOT work on the Automatic. Notable differences in '80-'81 would be the NON-adjustable float and matching float needle. They also use a accellerator pump.
Below is pictured a '80-'81 CM400E VB22E Keihin carb. All three ID's look identical, but all three have different internal tuning. This makes it very easy to mix them up so you have to id these carbs correctly. NEVER use aftermarket needles they are always incorrect. I have rebuilt more of these than I can count and probably only a handful were actual virgin carbs.
